The surface thermodynamic diurnal cycle over Venezuela is compared with that over Kansas grassland and the Canadian boreal forest, illustrating the greater upward transport of water vapor out of the subcloud layer by shallow cumulus clouds in the tropics, which limits the daytime rise of θE.
